How to Change the Copyright in GeneratePress Premium

I have used a lot of good WordPress themes over the years, but my current favorite is GeneratePress.

It’s easy to install the sites, they are fast, and I can customize them pretty easily.

one change that I do need to make to each of my GeneratePress sites, however, involves the copyright information at the bottom of the site.

Our article below will show you how to change the copyright in the GeneratePress theme for your WordPress website.

How to Replace the GeneratePress Copyright Text

 1. Go to your WordPress admin dashboard.
 2. Select Appearance.
 3. Choose GeneratePress.
 4. Activate Copyright.
 5. Go to Appearance > Customize.
 6. Select Layout.
 7. Click Footer.
 8. Enter your copyright information in the Copyright field.
 9. Click Publish.

Our guide continues below with additional information on how to change the copyright in GeneratePress Premium, including pictures of these steps.

Any time I change a theme in WordPress I find that one of the things I need to do is update the copyright information in the footer.

Sometimes there will just be a default WordPress link there, while other times it may link to the website of the theme’s creator.

I prefer to put the information for that website in the Copyright area of my footer, so it’s typically something I take care of pretty early in the design process.

With GeneratePress Premium you can accomplish this pretty easily by activating a “Copyright” module and adding your own information.

Our tutorial below will walk you through this process.

How to Add Your Own Custom GeneratePress Copyright (Guide with Pictures)

The steps in this article were performed in WordPress 6.1. I have the GeneratePress Premium plugin installed already.

Note that you will need to have GeneratePress Premium to follow the steps in this guide, and you will need to have the plugin already uploaded and installed on your site.

Step 1: Go to your WordPress admin dashboard.

Step 2: Select Appearance from the column on the left side of the window.

click Appearance

Step 3: Choose the GeneratePress option.

choose Generatepress

Step 4: Click the blue Activate button next to Copyright.

activate the Copyright module

Step 5: Go to the Customize menu.

You can either choose Appearance > Customize from the left column of the dashboard, or you can click the Customize link at the top of one of the pages on the front end of your site.

open the Customize menu

Step 6: Choose the Layout tab.

choose Layout

Step 7: Select the Footer option.

select Footer

Step 8: Delete the information that is in the Copyright section, then type the information that you want to use for your site’s copyright.

The text for this site is below if you just want to copy and paste that. You will need to replace the URL with your own site.

%copy% SEOTechniquesPro.com %current_year%

Step 9: Click the blue Publish button at the top-left of the window to apply the changes.

More Information About Updating the Copyright with the GeneratePress Theme

I’ve found that I sometimes need to reactivate modules in GeneratePress, especially if I switch child themes.

If you follow the steps above and you don’t see a “Copyright” field on the Footer section of the Layout menu, then you may need to go back and check that the Copyright module is activated.

There are a lot of other modules on the GeneratePress Premium plugin that you may want to activate as well.

Usually, I will activate these ones:

 • Blog
 • Copyright
 • Elements
 • Site Library

I have used some of the other ones on other sites, but almost every time I set up a site with GeneratePress I need at least these four modules turned on.
